Step 6: Export expense reports to accounting
When the expense reports are approved, you export them to accounting – as an SIE file or in another format, or directly to Fortnox.
📤 How does the export work?
- 📄 You create an accounting file, usually SIE, and import it into your accounting system
- 🔗 Or the verifications are sent directly via an integration, for example Fortnox
- ✅ Exported expense reports are marked as exported and are not included again
👉 Applies to: administrators. This is the last step in the checklist for getting started.
✅ Before you export
- ✅ The expense reports have the status Approved and the approval flow is complete
- 📊 All transactions are accounted for
- 📁 The chart of accounts and the internal accounts are set up correctly
- 📅 For SIE export, both the current and the previous financial year are filled in
👉 Otherwise the export may fail.
⚙️ Step 1 – Choose an export format (the first time)
- Go to Administrate > Settings and choose the Import & Export tab.
- Choose a format for export to accounting, for example SIE, CSV, TXT or an integration-specific format.
- If needed, choose more export destinations: accounting, payroll and BGC.
- Click Save.
👉 The formats available depend on your settings. If you need your own format, see Create a custom export format.
📤 Step 2 – Export the expense reports
- Go to Accounting > Export to Accounting.
- Enter the from and to dates and the verification date.
- Click Print checklist and check that the right expense reports are included.
- Click Export.
- Download the file under My downloaded files.
✅ The file is ready to import into your accounting system.
📄 What does the accounting file contain?
- 📅 Verification date and verification number
- 📊 Accounting accounts and internal accounts
- 💰 Debit and credit amounts
- ✅ VAT information
- 👤 User information
👉 Do you need the receipts for the verifications? Export a PDF or PDF links, see Verification with accounting and receipts (PDF and PDF links).
🔗 Export directly to Fortnox
With the Fortnox integration, the transactions are sent to Verifications in Fortnox, and the receipts are included.
- Go to Administrate > Settings > Integrations.
- Choose Fortnox > Add.
- Enter the verification series.
- Log in to Fortnox and approve.
✅ The integration is active.
⚠️ The user who connects the integration needs an accounting license and archive space in Fortnox, and a payroll license if salaries are to be paid.

🛠️ Troubleshooting
